Remembrance Day - 11th November

The poppies on the field glow red
they have grown from the buried dead
their brilliance shines
the red glow sings
as darkness engulfs them all

The grounds on which they grew
blood-stained by what be true
the fire burns
oh, how it yearns
to burn the dark evermore.

Every bright light will always end
like the soldiers who stood to fend
though we try
how they cried
the ones who could not stand alongside.

On they live their grief filled life
those who mourned thy soldiers' death
both of them knew
survivors be few
even so, the lovers broke their embrace.

False battlefields alive with bravery that day
life then fled, but bravery was to stay
forgotten sounds
fate had bound
their souls met angel's wings.

They paid the price of what we hold
their lives worth more than can be said
thriving poppies
relay the message
of their innocent intention that day.
