HELPFUL TIPS FOR WEBTV USERS -
PART 2

HOW TO SEND EMAIL BY WEBTV USERS:-

Links, also known as hyper links, are a major part of the internet. They can take you to various pages within a single web site or transport you to a totally new site altogether.

This section shows how to place a link in your e-mail. A link can either be the url of a web site or an
e-mail address. The tag used to do this is <A>.

To use a link in your e-mail use the href attribute and the url value in the <A> tag, like this:

<A href="http://www.webtv.net">

The above code informs your web browser of a link and it's location, but we still need something to click on to take us there. Well, this can either be in the form of text or an image.

Text as a clickable link

Text can be used in a variety of ways to create clickable links. Anything written between the opening <A> and closing </A> tags, will be clickable.

Here's an example of a link to WebTv's web site, using text as a clickable link, and how to write it:

<A href="http://www.webtv.net">WebTv Networks</A>

Here's what it looks like:

WebTv Networks

Your web browser interprets the code as a clickable link and highlights the text in blue. Once it's clicked on, the color changes indicating that it's already been visited.

HOW A WEBTV SYSTEM OPERATES:

This helpful information came from Kitty on 29.9.09

Dear Joan,
I don't know if you know it, but webby users have a keyboard, like on a typewriter, that is used for all they do. There is no "mouse" as on a computer. When I bring up one of your cards to send, I just press a key on the keyboard that says "send" and it then brings up a screen for the addy you are sending it to. That is typed in, and then you press the return key and away the greeting goes.
We on webTV don't need to use the "send" box at the bottom of the greeting card.. That is why you don't know if we are using the cards or not.

Or some folks on web might use the method of c/c/p and put the URL of a certain card on their email page to send. I don't know if you would get a copy of it doing it that way or not. I think that no matter what you do, if those of us on webby use the first described method then you'll never know what is being sent out. That's the way most of us send out cards from any card site.
Kitty

Hi Kitty,
So if I changed my coding from Bcc: to Cc: on my "Send this page to a Friend" it wouldn't make any difference to WEBTV users. They don't use my "Send this page to a Friend" email button.?
A third of my mailing list has WEBTV addresses on it, so I gather my pages are popular with them, so I naturally want to know how to fix this problem.
This morning I received an email from a WEBTV user and it had the address of the design on it, but I think I got it because I was on her list of friends to receive her email. This happens a lot. But being a PC user I couldn't click on the address. I needed to copy and paste it to Google for me to see the design.
Joan

Dear Joan,
That's right, It wouldn't work. Sorry.
When you press the "send" key and the pop up comes up for the addy, you have one line to fill in...that's it. There is no Cc:

Now, if you c/c/p the card and then put it on your email page, the page has a place for the main addressee and then under that is a place for Cc:
This is if you are sending something to a group of people. But it's usually only used to send a joke, graphic or story. I hope this explains it. People that don't have webs sometimes don't understand our set-up. As I stated, we have a keyboard like a typewriter, but it also has other keys on it . And our screen is our TV set.

Dear Joan,
In order for web tv users to use the Cc: we go to our mail box, click on "settings"
and there's three options you can choose.
1. create a storage area for your saved, sent and discarded messages.
2. Add an option to include the original message when you reply.
3. Add a Cc: line for carbon-copy recipients on outgoing messages, and a
Reply All button.

I only use the first two, never have used the Cc:

FOOTNOTE: The whole purpose of this page is for WEBTV users to work out how they can send me copies of any of MY designs that are sent to friends. I only want this information so that I can tell which designs are being used etc. in order to update with new designs.
